12.22. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

12.22. Jiu-Jitsu (Twelve Twenty Two Jiu-Jitsu), initially named “Linda Vista Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu,” was started by a group of local grapplers in the Linda Vista neighborhood in San Diego CA, in particular 1997. In 1998 John B Aragon began simply sharing time in his garage and helping to find opponents for team members. As classes grew in popularity, members of 12.22. Jiu-Jitsu began to ask for private lessons with John.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu will take you on a journey through various techniques and strategies that, when combined, can cause an opponent to “give up.” BJJ is the ultimate martial art for self-defense and competitions, with the ability to cause an opponent to submit (tap) before their body gives out. BJJ Dojo provides a non-threatening environment to learn this beautiful art. It’s only a matter of time before you’re excitedly asking, “When can we train again?”

This class is focused on training in grappling clothes with a focus on takedowns, throws, and ground fighting. Jiu-jitsu is a martial art form that focuses on self-defense. Techniques such as joint locks and chokes are used as leverage to control an opponent. Training is done in a no-gi uniform and focuses on the same goals as the gi class but modified for application without grips. Wrestlers love this class because they get to practice their takedown skills.

Building strength, flexibility, stamina, and more, while learning to defend yourself against the scariest of foes…bullies! This class is focused on children ages 4-11. Our program is designed with kids in mind. We help build confidence, strength, and flexibility at an age-appropriate level (while also teaching them to defend themselves). Last year we had 80 students sign up for our program. Some parents take this as a chance to escape, but don’t worry!
