Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is a martial art based on grappling and ground fighting techniques. It has been practiced by millions of people worldwide since ancient times. Its main attributes are its high rate, wide variety throughout the globe, and firm culture in Brazil. The Brazilian Jiu‑jutsu Federation operates 19 clubs across North America, specializing primarily in Muay Thai. According to Wikipedia, while most fighters begin their training at an early age, within two years of starting school, many kids receive instruction as young as 18 or 20 years old from family members who have already trained them long before that. Although there may be differences depending upon the region of origin, some students go through five weeks of mandatory weekly seminars where the instructor teaches skills developed in self-defense and gentle art.
Rob Ables is a 4th-degree black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Marcelo Garcia. For years, he owns Marcelo Garcia of Dalla Rosa BJJ and has trained at his academy, Bellator MMA.
